Tantoo Cardinal

Tantoo Cardinal is an award-winning actor who has appeared on film and television, including Dances With Wolves, Black Robe, Legends of the Fall, Lakota Woman: Siege at Wounded Knee and Tecumseh: The Last Warrior. Among his many awards, Tantoo Cardinal has been awarded a National Aboriginal Achievement Award. Born in Fort McMurray (Alberta) in 1950, she currently resides in Calgary.

She plays in the film Marie-Anne turned to Edmonton in 1979 and interprètele The mild character of Rosanna Loyalties in Anne WHEELER (1986). She has been nominated as best actress for the Genie and receives the award for Best Actress in Indian Film Festival.

It pierces the international playing Black Shawldans Dances with Wolves (Dances with Wolfes) (1990) alongside Kevin Costner and Graham Greene. She also plays in BlackRabe (1991), a film written by Brian Moore, in Mustard Bath (1993) and Legends of the Fall (1994) starring Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins; she played the leading role in Silent Tongue (1994), written and directed by Sam Shepard, and Where the Rivers Flow North (1994) with Richard Harris and Alan Bates, which earned him the award for best actress at the Native American Film Festival. More recently, she played important roles in the film Smoke Signals (1998) and the miniseries The Temptations of Big Bear (1999), based on the novel by Rudy Wiebe, in which she plays Running Second, the wife of Big Bear.

In theater, she apparaîtdans Jessica, adapting Halfbreed by Maria Campbell, presented at the 25TH STREETTHEATRE in Saskatoon in 1982, and All My Relationsde Floyd Favel, presented by Catalyst Theatre in Edmonton. This role earned him the prize Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award for Best Actress in 1990.
