The name 'Potawatomi' is a name that means 'People of the place of fire'.
The Potawatomi are among the wave of Algonquian-speaking people who occupied the Great Lakes region during prehistoric times.
The Potawatomi Nation people began as a large group consisting of Chippewa nations and Ottawa.Quand this group moved from Canada to the shores of the Great Lakes, they are divided into three nations individuelles.Les Chippewa lived west of Lake higher, the Ottawa lived east of Lake Huron Potawatomi and the population remained the leading 'Council fire' of these three nations.
Potawatomi population has moved south on the shores of Lake Michigan.Aujourd 'Today they are known as the' Fire Ward ".
Of this great nation of people Potawatomi, several groups have formed over tard.Les Potawatomi people have called, after moving to Kansas in the 1500s, to vote to take the government's proposals of the United States to have the citizenship and a portion of territory now known as Oklahoma.

Le Potawatomi sont parmi la vague des personnes parlant Algonquian qui ont occupé la région de Great Lakes lors des périodes préhistoriques.
La nation des habitants Potawatomi était au départ un grand groupe constitué des nations Chippewa et Ottawa.Quand ce groupe a déménagé du Canada vers les bords des Grands Lacs,ils se sont divisés en 3 nations individuelles.Les Chippewa vivaient à l'ouest du Lac Supérieur,les Ottawa vivaient à l'est du lac Huron et la population Potawatomi est restée le premier 'conseil du feu' de ces 3 nations.
La population Potawatomi s'est déplacées au sud sur les bords du lac Michigan.Aujourd'hui ils sont connus sous le nom de 'Gardien de feu'.
De cette grande nation de la population Potawatomi,plusieurs groupes se sont formés plus tard.Les populations Potawatomi ont appelées,après avoir déménagé au Kansas dans les années 1500,à voter pour prendre les propositions du gouvernement des Etats-unis afin d'avoir la citoyenneté et une partie d'un territoire appelé aujourd'hui Oklahoma.
